Italy vs Poland face each other in Nations League

Italy host Poland for their first UEFA Nations League clash on Friday evening after missing out on the World Cup in Russia and an unpredictable spell of form through their friendlies with a tough schedule now behind them.

Azzurri have suffered a 2-0 loss to Argentina and held the Three Lions to a 1-1 draw in two March outings in England, going on to beat Saudi Arabia in May. There have been improvements in Roberto Mancini’s side but we’ve then seen a 3-1 loss in France and an unconvincing 1-1 draw against Netherlands in front of the home crowd in Torino – where they conceded a last-minute equalizer.

Poland will now hope to cause a similar upset in Bologna but they’ve seen a similar spell of form and an early exit at the World Cup, where losses to Senegal and Colombia meant a ticket back home and the narrow 0-1 win over Japan was hardly a consolation. Jerzy Brzeczek will now want a strong start but the away day to Stadio Renato Dall’Ara will be no walk in the park.

The sides have last met in November 2011 and Italy have snatched a 0-2 win at Stadion Miejski in Wroclaw.Azzurri have earned five wins and six draws in 14 games, with just three losses on records in head-to-head matches against Poland.Poland have never bagged a win in Italy.
