Leicester may have lost their opening game of the season, but overall it’s been a very promising opening month of the new calendar. They followed that 2-1 loss to Manchester United with victories over Southampton and Wolves, and most recently hammered Fleetwood Town 4-0 in the EFL Cup.
Last weekend they came close to dropping points at St Mary’s though, and were only saved by a late 25 yard strike from none other than Harry Maguire. It may have been an incredible and unexpected moment, but an underlying current of concern should be surfacing.
The Foxes certainly can’t rely on their centre back to hammer in wonder goals every week, and without Jamie Vardy they clearly struggle going forward. It’s fair to say that Leicester have been lucky so far, and the expected goals tallies certainly suggest the same thing.
Liverpool side who are the only top flight team yet to concede a goal this season. The emphatic attacking force of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino don’t look to have suffered from their newfound defensive stability either, which makes them a terrifying opponent to face.
Jurgen Klopp’s men opened the campaign with a 4-0 demolition of West Ham, and followed that a week later with a more reserved but no less impressive 2-0 win at Crystal Palace. Last week was more of a slog, but still they battled on and took three points from Brighton to put them at the top of the Premier League table.
