Real Madrid re-sign striker from Lyon

Real Madrid have re-signed striker Mariano from Lyon for 33m euros, just 14 months after he joined the French club. The former Dominican Republic international, who was born in Spain, joined Lyon in June 2017 for eight million euros and scored 20 goals in 43 appearances.

Mariano has signed a five-year contract at the Bernabeu after Real activated their buy-back option.

Despite that great scoring form, there was little chatter surrounding the Dominican this summer. Most of the attention at the Groupama Stadium was centred on Nabil Fekir, but Lyon’s other top forwards―including Memphis Depay―largely flew under the radar.

Mariano already knows the club and should have no issues settling in. This late in the summer, he could be the perfect value buy, and his arrival could allow Vinicius or Mayoral to go on loan to gain some much-needed experience
